(Elune) Simple guide to Righteous Radiance.

Welcome to my guide for Righteous Radiance.

In this guide I will go through the core abilities, talents and general advice/information to get you started with my version of this build.

Be sure to check out this guide on card locations to see if any cards you don't have can be earned for this build. Righteous Radiance is from Scarlet Magus in Western Plaguelands inside Hearthglen for example and is the core talent needed to play this!

This guide is massively outdated. It can still be followed but I have not gotten around to updating it and have not played this build since around Febuary/March.
I recommend you aim for this version of the build if you are still wanting to play this until I find the time to update the guide. Almost the exact same but you want to apply moonfires and use Stone Shard at 20 stacks of Booming Thunder.

What exactly is Righteous Radiance and how does it play?

Righteous Radiance is a talent that requires you to cast fire spells such as Fireball for example to generate stacks of Righteous Radiance and once you have built up enough stacks, you can unleash a big blast of Radiant damage on your enemies with Holy Fire! This talent is super versatile and can be played with whatever fire spells you desire which means you can build it in plenty of different ways. My guide focuses on Elemental Blast though with the talent Elemental Domination as its core rotational spell. Since I recommend starting with Fireball leaving you to be able to grab Elemental Blast later on down the road as you progress, the build can be played from as early as level 20 when you unlock the talent and Holy Fire.

How does the build work?

When casting fire damaging spells, you generate 1 stack of Righteous Radiance or 2 stacks while you have both Inner Fire and the talent Burning Inner Fire. After generating 5 stacks, you then cast Holy Fire to consume them and unleash Radiant damage (which is a combination of Fire and Holy damage) to your target and 4 other enemies close by. Since Righteous Radiance gives us a damage profile with passive cleave, we don't have to invest heavily into AoE which makes this build really strong for any type of content you wish to do. If you wish to do aspiring content such as Ascended raids or push high Mythic Plus keys, this build can do just that with relative ease!

If you think you would enjoy playing a fire mage and holy priest damaging hybrid build then this could be just for you!

With the release of Chapter 2, this build did get slightly nerfed. My guide can still be followed and the numbers will still be relatively the same or possibly higher with the new Synergy system.

Core Abilties and what I recommend to start with.

Starting Abilities.

  • Fireball - So you can build stacks of Righteous Radiance without having to rely on RNG to get a different spell later on.
  • Life Tap - So you have a means to sustain mana.

Abilties to card.

  • Glacial Fire - This is essentially Holy Fire and will let you squeeze more damage out of the build later on. Since I don't think carding common rarity abilities is worthwhile long term, I recommend this instead of Holy Fire and you should be able to get Holy Fire with ease during levelling or at 60. If you don't have this, Holy Fire is perfectly fine to card. Just make sure you have one of them or you won't be able to do utilise the build at all.
  • A stance or form. I listed them in which priority I think would be best but you can only use one at a time!:
    • Twisted Mind - Hit chance is super important for all builds and this stance provides 3% ontop of spell power which is also very important for casters.
    • Moonkin Form - Super helpful with mana sustain. This alone allowed me to never drop below 50% mana meaning I did not need to press Life Tap at all during a boss fight.
    • Molten Mind - 5% more damage from spell criticals is very valuable. This build benefits from crit a ton with Ignite being a core part of the build so if you feel like you won't need the mana sustain you could prioritise this over Moonkin Form.
  • Power Infusion - Powerful cooldown that reduces mana cost of spells and casting speed by 20% for 12 seconds.
  • Inner Fire - Righteous Radiance has built in interactions with this and provides a very nice boost to damage with the Inner Fire talents.

Talents

Biggest talents to card.

  • Ignite 5/5 - This is a massive portion of damage once we get our crit % high enough to reliably crit on every cast.
  • Burning Inner Fire - Itself is not a huge talent since you will are almost guaranteed to lose Inner Fire and will have to rebuff yourself constantly in combat but once you combine it with Improved Inner Fire and the Mystic Enchant Improved Inner Fire you can sustain Inner Fire charges on single target fights way longer allowing for more uptime.
  • Elemental Domination - This is borderline required as it allows for you to scale the build with many other talents for example Seeds of Flame and Immoral Rites. The buffs that Elemental blast give you are also very beneficial giving us more crit and cast speed and yes, Elemental Blast can deal fire damage so it procs Ignite.

Complementary Talents to card if you don't have all of the ones above.

  • Burnout 5/5 - More crit damage is very helpful and the capstone gives us 6% increased spell damage on our ignite targets. Also some extra passive aoe but the capstone requires 5/5 Ignite.
  • Consuming Flames - Since Ignite is a good chunk of our damage later on, this talent just allows it to do even more damage.
  • Harbinger of Flame / Burning Flames - Harbinger of Flame is a damaging proc that does decent enough damage and combine that with Burning Flames you get a 5% increased fire damage dealt buff thats relatively high on uptime.

Abilities and Talents to keep an eye for during levelling and at level 60.

If you aren't able to card any of the above, be sure to keep those abilties/talents in mind!
  • Holy Fire - This is one of the core spells of the build but since its a common rarity spell, I don't recommend carding it. Should be easy enough to get.
  • Elemental Blast - Very important skill when you have the talents carded for it. Allows scaling from slightly more talents while keeping the rotation as simple as possible. It is worth mentioning that it has a very low mana cost compared to other core spells that can be spammed resulting in you sustaining mana for longer. Same as Holy Fire... it's a common spell so it should be easy enough to get without carding it later on down the road.
  • Arcane Power - 15% more spell damage at the cost of spells costing 15% more mana. Very nice to have if you can sustain the mana but very hard to roll. Can get its cooldown reduced by Arcane Flows and the capstone provides an extra 5% magic damage done.
  • Icy Veins - Similar to Power Infusion but without the mana cost reduction but makes you immune to Silences which is very nice in certain content.
  • Divine Illumination - The mana cost reduction is very nice, even on a short cooldown but if you are able to get Fury of the Light talent this will be a massive increase to your holy crit damage for the duration of the spell. This can also translate into more Ignite damage with the Righteous Radiance holy fires but this combination will be super hard to get.
  • Soul Harvest - Essentially a mini Arcane Power. Not amazing but 15% damage is good to have regardless of duration. If you do get this just macro it to one of your other cooldowns and forget about it.
  • Fire Blast, Shadowburn, Sunfire - Instant cast fire damaging spells that allow us to build stacks of Righteous Radiance on the move or instantly without having to cast a final spell for the last stack.
  • Hellfire, Fire Storm - Hellfire with Inferno is insanely good for both AoE damage and building Righteous stacks but at the cost of being in melee. Fire storm on the other hand allows you to stay in range while allowing you to cast it once and continue your single target rotation. None of these are needed to do AoE since Righteous Radiance is passive cleave but its something to help do more AoE damage.
  • Burning Rush - Allows us to cast fire spells on the move. Elemental blast can be casted while moving with this.
  • Primordial Aftershocks - With enough crit, this resets the cooldown on Flame Shock giving you even more mobility if its needed.
  • Overloaded Mind - With Elemental Blast, you can get really high uptime on this talent with no change in your rotation.
  • General chance to hit talents until your hit capped such as Accuracy.
  • Fel Concentration - Not only is this useful because of the pushback but the capstone healing us while casting. Since we have Ignite and Flame Shock ticking nearly 100% of the time we will be constantly healing ourself with this talent.

Mystic Enchants.

Rotation and how to play the build.

Summon your pets and buff before anything else! Now once you've done that:

Precast Elemental Blast or Fireball if you don't have Elemental Blast followed by your cooldowns such as Power Infusion, cast Flame Shock to get Booming Echoes if known. Keep casting Elemental Blast or Fireball until you have 5 stacks of Righteous Radiance then cast Holy Fire to consume the stacks. After that just repeatidly cast Elemental Blast or Fireball again until you're back at 5 stacks.

Since this build can be played with literally 2 buttons, make sure you don't forget to press Flame Shock for the Booming Echoes buff.

Extra information, tips or misc.

These screenshots were made during Feburary or March prio the release of Blackwing Lair and before the nerfs that were introduced in Chapter 2. I was still able to reach 20k single target with some upgrades in talent ranks and the addition of finally getting Arcane Power. No gear difference, only talent ranks and 1 new ability. If you like this build guide and want to check some other guides? I have also made:
